Every project starts with a visit to the house. We measure the space, look at the slope of the yard, check the wall where a deck would attach, note doors, windows and utilities, and ask how you plan to use the deck. On the bench neighborhoods, where yards drop toward the valley, that visit also tells us how tall the posts will be and whether stairs need a landing.

Decks here are built for the local conditions. Salt Lake City Building Services lists a 30-inch frost depth, a minimum ground snow load of 28 pounds per square foot at or below 4,239 feet of elevation (higher sites follow the Utah Snow Load Study), and a severe weathering rating. Footings, framing and any roof over the deck are sized to those numbers, not to a generic plan.

After the visit you get a written quote that lists the size, materials, railing, stairs, permit work and price. Nothing starts until you approve it, and any change in scope is agreed in writing first.
